For any VCE colleagues that advise or know of sports turf managers at any level (parks and rec, schools ,etc…these groups in particular will benefit), please spread the word regarding the Va Sports Turf Managers Association Field Day on Wednesday, June 9th from 9-2 at the Warhill Sports Complex in James City County. VSTMA will implement whatever Covid-protocol precautions are in place at that time, but it’s a great opportunity to get outdoors and learn from VT, VCE, and industry experts about the steps needed to promote field recovery after all of our Covid-induced spring sports activities on our fields.  Even the synthetic fields need attention from all of the traffic they have been receiving.  As with all VSTMA events, VSTMA members can register free of charge, so if you aren’t a member or haven’t renewed your membership, I strongly encourage you to do so via the VSTMA website or reach out to VSTMA Executive Director, Melissa Dornan. There will be demonstrations from 20+ sponsors and vendors who support our industry and educational talks regarding sprayer calibration, drift management ,pesticide application best practicescloud-based irrigation management, synthetic turf maintenance and safety, and a weed walk and talk to address weed identification and control options. One of the sponsors will be firing up a grill to provide a hot lunch; there will be plenty of delicious food and opportunities to mix and mingle with our peers throughout the Commonwealth.
